International Women’s Day 2016: “Pledge For Parity”

Today we celebrate: International Women’s Day which is held globally on the 8th of March each year.

All over the world, women continue to contribute to social, economic, cultural and political achievement and to reward their efforts we celebrate them!

The theme for International Women’s Day 2016 is “Pledge for Parity”. Over the years, statistics have shown that progress towards gender parity has slowed in many places.

International-Womens-DayThe World Economic Forum predicted in 2014 that it would take until 2095 to achieve global gender parity. Then one year later in 2015, they estimated that a slowdown in the already glacial pace of progress meant the gender gap wouldn’t close entirely until 2133.

To eradicate this problem we are making a Pledge for Parity! Men and women can pledge to make everyday improvements to help accomplish gender equality more swiftly. We can all come together to assist women and girls with achieving their goals and ambitions, to encourage more gender-balanced leadership and to eliminate workplace bias.

Ms. Sandra Baptist, Women’s Entrepreneurship Day – Antigua Barbuda Ambassador stated, “In today’s society, collectively we can achieve gender parity and empower all women and girls. It is my aim and commitment as the WED – Antigua Barbuda Ambassador, to embark on improving Women’s Entrepreneurship causes which relates to Women’s empowerment and Human rights by bringing awareness to this cause, both locally and internationally.”

Globally, individuals are pledging to move from talk to resolute action, men and women are coming together to jointly help women advance to equal to their numbers and recognize the unlimited potential they offer economies the world over.
